Here are some basics I have learned about online digital marketing, also known as affiliate marketing, so far. Now of course, I am not a pro by any means, but I have learned TONS about
What It Is:
It is an arrangement you make with a company (usually online) where the company pays you a commission for referring people to buy their products or services.
In other words, YOU can get PAID for sharing about companies you LOVE and things that YOU buy. That sounds PERFECT, right? What an EASY way to earn money!
That's what I thought too, so I really started digging in online to learn everything I could about how to do it.
What RESOURCES do you need to make affiliate marketing easier?
When you start searching about affiliate marketing and the resources to do it online, you'll realize RIGHT AWAY there are so many YouTube videos, websites, TikTok and Reels videos, Google Ads, and blogs about how to do it.
It was VERY overwhelming when I first began looking myself.
The most annoying and risky sounding part to me were all the "Gurus" out there online. They all claim to have a proven method to help you
learn to make loads of money in a few days,....
if you just follow their method
or sign up for their webinar, email list, Ebook, etc.....
Each Guru I followed left me disappointed and discouraged.
Yes, I would find out a little snippet of something new that I didn't know before they shared their information with me,
BUT.... they were all about buying THEIR service
or THEIR product
or THEIR book.
I never felt like any of them were trying to really help ME.
It was more about making money for THEMSELVES. I got more and more confused and distracted with each link I went to and each new email list I signed up for.
Based on all I had seen though, I could tell there were SIX THINGS any affiliate marketer needed to do or resources to have when getting started:
A niche is the category of the product or service you want to promote as an affiliate. The "evergreen" niches involve Health, Wealth, and Self Care. This means that there is always money to be made with topics related to these niches. Choose a niche that you are experienced with and can relate to the most with your own experiences. You should also check search engines to make sure there is traffic for the niche.
Over 80% of companies have affiliate programs you can join in order to start promoting their products and earning commissions. Some affiliate programs are better and more profitable than others. It also depends if you plan to promote high-ticket items or low-ticket items. The lower the cost of the item or service you are promoting, the more of those items it will take to earn a larger profit.
Not all online marketing training and mentorships are created equal. Like I mentioned in the beginning, there are tons of gurus with digital marketing courses online that claim they can help you make thousands of dollars within a VERY short period of time. I'm not saying that it is impossible to start making big money that fast, but it is highly unlikely. Affiliate marketing is not some kind of "get rich quick" scheme. It takes having the right training and/or mentor to teach you the foundational pieces to help get your business going in the right direction.
A domain is the address your potential clients (leads) will use to reach your offers or website. It will be where you send potential customers to a landing page where you will describe your offer. It usually ends with .com, .net, or .org. You should choose a domain name that is easy to remember and spell. The name should also be related to your niche. For example, you wouldn't want your domain name to be "learn_to_read.com" if you are promoting products or services related to pets. Since I am a teacher and tutor I "exchange" my knowledge and "educate" others, I decided to name my business and my domain the same thing - Education Exchange.
Having an email list is critical for your online digital business to be successful. The more people added to your list, the more you will appreciate having an email autoresponder. The main reason digital marketers use email autoresponder messages is to broadcast messages to their subscribers and send emails to specific groups of people on their list. Can you imagine sending hundreds or thousands of individual emails out each day? The autoresponder helps marketers share the information with their leads and hopefully get the lead to make a purchase that will result in a commission. The email responder I use is easy to learn and lets you break your list into segments so you can target certain groups with emails most relevant to them.
When I use the term "funnels", I am not referring to funnel cakes from the state fair or the thing you use to put oil in your car. In digital marketing, funnels help drive your traffic to your offer. A basic funnel is all you need. You do not need a full website like the one you are on right now. There are 3 basic parts to a sales funnel: 1) the opt-in page where the lead types in his/her email address, 2) the sales page, and 3) the "thank you" page. There are lots of funnel builder programs too, with the most popular ones being ClickFunnels , GetResponse, and Systeme. It is imperative to include an opt-in page as part of your funnel so you can get that email to add to your email list. These emails are how you follow up with leads regarding current and future offers.
